I spent seven years as a lighting artist in a studio environment. Most of my work was done for an animated series, but I also did lighting for film VFX, from set extensions to fully CG shots. I had the privilege of learning from some highly experienced pros in the industry, and before long I was training others on the team on both artistic and technical aspects of lighting and compositing.
At times, I was assigned to act as a Lighting Lead / Supervisor, reviewing other artists' shots and giving feedback before giving the go-ahead to submit to the Art Director for approval. My last few years, I was the studio's Technical Director Assistant, especially focusing on Post (simulation, caching, scene assembly / cleanup, lighting, rendering, render farm management, compositing). So I helped the artists in these fields with their technical issues and provided training as needed. I worked with our development team to help build custom pipelines and tools for our workflow. I would research, test, and recommend software.
I also worked extensively with hair grooming and occasionally helped with other generalist tasks, such as modeling, surfacing, simulations, animation fixes, and camera animation. But I continued lighting and compositing throughout my time there.
The software I primarily used in the studio environment was Maya, RenderMan, V-Ray, and Nuke. I also used Houdini, Blender, and Unreal Engine.
Apart from artistic and technical skills, it makes me very happy that people have always told me that I'm a pleasure to work with. I do my best to be kind, patient, and positive, while still working diligently and communicating clearly.
